ISC3 – International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre

ISC3 acts as an international Think Tank to promote and discuss the concept of Sustainable Chemistry. In order to frame the international discussion, the ISC3 supports the dialogue-based development of a set of key principles for Sustainable Chemistry along with the respective sustainability assessment tools. By publicizing thought-starters, reports and new scientific findings in Sustainable Chemistry on public and scientific platforms, the ISC3 continuously stimulates the cross-sectoral discussion on potential and perspectives of Sustainable Chemistry. International visibility of the ISC3 Think Tank activities and further intellectual exchange is promoted by organizing and attending scientific conferences.

The ISC3-Research & Education Hub is currently identifying research topics on Sustainable Chemistry hereby screening cross-sectoral topics for example, “the potentials and limits of circular economy for chemical products” or “the possible contributions of chemical science to the sound management of chemicals and the Sustainable Development Goals” as well as specific topics such as “the contributions of Sustainable Chemistry to sustainable construction and urbanization” and many more”. These research topics will be addressed in exchange with international academic institutions as well as with institutions from developing countries.

The Elsevier Foundation-ISC3 Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge

The Elsevier Foundation and the ISC3 believe that chemistry plays a critical role in developing a sustainable future. Chemists have a special responsibility to develop innovations, products and processes to tackle the major global challenges. The Elsevier Foundation-ISC3 Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge strives to stimulate innovative chemistry research that helps the environment and low-resource communities.

The Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge, organized in close partnership between ISC3 and the Elsevier Foundation, consists of three prizes:

  • Two scientific prizes: the winning project will receive a prize of €50,000 while the second place will be awarded with €25,000.
  • One Entrepreneurial prize: €25,000 will be awarded for the winner of the “Entrepreneurial Spirit in Sustainable Chemistry Award”.

The winners will be announced at the 2020 Green & Sustainable Chemistry Conference in Germany.
